TURMERIC, The Majestic Healer
More than just a pungent and savory spice, turmeric is also known to be a medicinal plant. A major factor in the Siddha medicine (oldest medical system that originated in Southern India), it has been known to help relieve arthritis, heartburn and even diarrhea. Nowadays, turmeric has also been used for headaches, fever and even menstrual problems.
A relative of ginger, the turmeric is a herbaceous plant. It is yellow to orange color and is somehow cylindrical in shape. Growing as tall as 1 meter, it is a native in Southeast India due to its temperature requirement. Of the plant, the rhizomes and leaves are usually gathered for culinary purposes while the roots are commonly used for natural therapies.
In the olden times, turmeric has been used as a remedy for stomach and liver ailments. Believed to contain antimicrobial property, it was, and is now, even used as a remedy for sores. Skin conditions such as chicken pox, shingles and allergies were even treated with the use of fresh turmeric juice.
What makes turmeric powerful?
Curcumin, an active compound found in turmeric, has powerful biological effects best for the body. It being antibacterial, antitumor and an antioxidant, it is no wonder that the turmeric has many uses.
Despite such, studies show little support to its clinical claim. Although, as of this writing, a number of clinical tests have been conducted, there is no specific conclusion supporting its medicinal claim. Still, many believe, that the turmeric has powerful components that can even ward off the development of cancer.

Cancer, one of the deadliest diseases in the world, involves abnormal cell growth that invades the other parts of the body. With turmeric and curcumin, it tends to prevent the development of cancer cells thus preveting it spread and affect other cells.
Alzheimer’s Disease
Accordingly, turmeric has also been examined for its many potential uses. One of which is the treatment of Alzheimer’s, a progressive disease that causes memory and behaviour problems. James A. Duke, Phd, in one of his studies, found out that turmeric contains quite a number of ‘natural agents’ that block the substances responsible for the obstruction of one’s cerebral function.
Fibroid
Benign tumors located either on the outside or inside of the uterus, they grow between the size of a pea to a grapefruit. Most women are not aware if they have it in their uterus or not. Considered a primary factor in perimenopause, fibroids, most often, makes it difficult for women to be at ease.
Although there is no specific conclusion, doctors say that drinking turmeric tea or taking in dosage of turmeric can help the body be at ease. However, it must only be taken in moderation as it may casue stomach pain.

Make a cup anytime, anywhere.

Boil 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil.

If using ground turmeric, add 1 teaspoon. Simmer for 10 minutes.

Transfer to a cup. You can use a siever to separate the morsels. Add lemon slices or honey for a sweeter taste.
If a hot cup of tea is not for you, then have a cold turmeric tea and a biscuit with family and friends. Learn to incorporate turmeric in your diet. Add it to your dishes and pastries and make it a habit to eat healthy and be healthy.
