The tonsils are known to be two lymph nodes that are located on each side of the back of your throat. They function as a defense mechanism. They help prevent your body from being infected, the condition is referred to as tonsillitis.
Tonsillitis can happen at any age, and is a common childhood infection. It’s most often diagnosed in children from preschool age through their mid-teens. Symptoms of such include sore throat, swollen tonsils and fever.
The condition is also known to be contagious and can be caused by a wide array of common viruses and bacteria, such as the streptococcal bacteria, which can cause a strep throat. Tonsillitis that’s caused by a strep throat can lead to the development of even serious complications it it’s left untreated.
Tonsillitis can be diagnosed easily, and symptoms would usually go away within a week, maximum would be 10 days.
