For Brain Tumor:
Indirubin is a herbal substance that’s believed to be used in traditional remedies to help beat the brain tumors. Indirubin s obtained from the indigo plant and studies have shown that it works by targeting the process called angiogenesis — a process that involves growth of new blood vessels from pre-existing ones.
First and foremost, indirubin was observed to:
- help prevent cancer cells from migrating to the brain
- lower blood flow to tumors
- halt the development of glioblastoma cells
- impede cancer from progressing if already present in the brain
Dr. E Antonio Chiocca, professor and chairman of neurological surgery in Ohio states that indirubin can halt tumor cells in their tracks. Furthermore, it appears to help prevent the invasion from taking place. Better yet, a significant number of mice treated with indirubin survived!
The active ingredient in traditional Chinese herbal remedies may help treat deadly brain tumors, according to a research done at Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center. The researchers discovered that the compound, indirubin, both blocks the migration of glioblastoma cells, thus preventing their spread to other brain regions, and the migration of endothelial cells, thus preventing them from forming brand new blood vessels that the tumor needs to grow.
Found in Chinese herbal remedy Dang Gui Long Hui Wan, a medicine used to help treat chronic myeloid leukemia, indirubin can help stop or prevent the multiplication of blood tumor cells by binding and blocking special proteins that aid in cancerous cell division, according to previous research. Scientists also demonstrated the chemical indirubin blocked the spread of tumors to other parts of the brain in animal models. Indirubin also helps prevent angiogenesis, the formation of blood vessels used to nourish and aid in the growth of tumors.
